Belinda
Belinda is a thoughtfully designed 35 square metre outbuilding located behind a heritage building of significance in Fitzroy, serving as versatile living quarters for the family's teenage son. The building's form responds to numerous site restrictions and the required side setbacks of the planning scheme, resulting in a unique structure.
One of Belinda's standout features is the upper level cantilever that extends over the rear laneway, maintaining clearance for passing vehicles. Gaining approval for this cantilever was particularly challenging due to resistance from a local neighborhood group opposed to the change. However, through careful negotiation and nimble design, this feature was successfully integrated.
